Rhodes City Tour

In the well-known Mandraki, at the entrance to the old port of Rhodes,you can see two columns with two deer statues on their top. Deer are the symbol of the cosmopolitan island and represent a female and a male deer, known as the elf and the doe.

In the area of Elli, in the northernmost point of the city, just a few steps from the city center, is the Rhodes Aquarium. The Aquarium is one of the most important marine research centers in Greece and is housed in a building of historical importance dating back to around 1935.

On the hill of Monte Smith was built the Ancient Acropolis of Rhodes. The impressive view will captivate you, since you can see the city of Rhodes and the port. If the weather conditions allow, you can see the Asia Minor coast opposite.

A little further down, we find the ancient stadium of Diagoras, where the games were held in honor of the Sun god. Right next to the stadium we find the Odeon where various musical performances were organized.

From the D’AMBOISE gate we enter the medieval Old Town of Rhodes. The castle of Rhodes is an entire medieval city surrounded by walls dating back to the 14th-15th century.

Inside the Old Town, we find the ancient Museum where the Knights’ Hospital was housed. A little further on we see the Knights’ Street, the famous street of the old town. Finally we find the Palace of the Grand Master, an imposing building, which now functions as a museum.

The Kallithea Springs are a representative example of Italian architecture, which has been integrated into the natural environment of the area. At Kallithea Springs we find impressive buildings and beautiful beaches. The facilities include the Rotunda with a dome approximately 14 meters high, where the Statue of Eros is located in the middle.
